IT'S BEAUTIFUL – HEINER MEYER IN DIALOGUE WITH MASTERS OF POP ART

Since the 1950s, artists such as Andy Warhol began to examine mass consumption, and Roy Lichtenstein elevated comic book characters into his artwork. Pop art established itself as one of the most popular art movements of the 20th century with its visualization and criticism of consumer society. Pop art is still relevant in 2023. Bielefeld artist Heiner Meyer has been faithful to pop art for years – he likes to describe himself as a pop art artist 2.0. At first glance, his works are entirely in the tradition of the famous Pop Art artists – and quote many of them – but Heiner Meyer adds another, narrative, often ironic level of meaning to them all. Heiner Meyer takes a close look at the consumer world and the self-image of the jet-set community – and subtly criticizes this world.

To mark Heiner Meyer's 70th birthday, this exhibition places his works in dialogue with masters of Pop Art such as Roy Lichtenstein, Ford Beckmann, Andy Warhol, Alex Katz, Allen Jones, and others.

The works are kindly on loan from the artist and from private collections.
