The Lippstadt City Museum has an extensive collection of toys from the last century, including numerous tin toys. The Bielefeld-based painter Heiner Meyer is also lending items from his collection of tin toy vehicles.
This selection is complemented by paintings by Heiner Meyer from private art collections that feature these tin toys as their motif, as well as more recent paintings that revolve around the motif of the car.
In Meyer's painting, it is his attitude to bring together ubiquitous icons from the media, comics, and advertising in a surreal crossover of photorealism and pop art with deliberate art-historical allusions. What shines through is an obsessive fascination with a peinture of “beautiful” form and an awareness of the historicity of painting.
This exhibition combines cultural and art-historical questions and is also suitable for use in art classes in secondary schools.
